I used the regular mix powder - i'll need to make up a batch of the special mix powder sometime to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks, great recipe. I've only made this in a slow cooker ( 3 times), and with some variations, as follows:
switch slow cooker to 2 strength (high)
add:
2 onions very thinly sliced
1 bell pepper very thinly sliced
1 entire bulb of garlic thinly sliced
5 bird's eye chilis thinly sliced ( or 10 slivered)
let this cook till browning on edges when wafts of smells come off ( about 45mns)
add:
1 tsp chilipowder
2 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp garam masala
a pinch of coriander seeds
1 tsp mixed powder
juice of half a lemon
2 large breasts of chicken ( or whatever you need)
keep on high for about 1hr
add some Knorr chicken stock and some water tothe sonsistency that you want for the sauce
Keep on high for another hour and serve with Basmati rice
N.B. Tonight I am experimenting with cooking on 1 ( low) after I add the chicken so I'll let youknow how that turns out. Basically this is a great recipe so thanks Justin C!

Reminds me of my step-daughter. Made this (variation) a while back and she says it smells delicious but "I don't like garlic, can you make it without?"
Stone me.

Hi Grotesque. Don't know can YOU make it without?. Give it a go and let us know how you get on. Could be the making of a new Indian restaurant favorite.

hahaha! Only one of our curries - aloo ghobi - is cooked without garlic. We once cooked for someone who said they were allergic to the whole allium family - onion, garlic, you name it. So we tactfully suggested chicken tikka with salad and raita in a naan wrap (kiddies' fav), but no, she wanted a proper curry with sauce. So we made a gravy based on peppers, carrots and white cabbage. The end result was something else, but she was delighted with it![]()
